Why would that sound a bit weird? In fact, I reckon it's one of the most 'normal' things you've ever said on here, mashed son?

Gonna sound a bit weird but one of the very few things I've missed about London is the habit of getting on it early, straight from work, probably due to potential problems like this, London being so big and there being a "last train" etc.
Most towns in the country people go home after work and get ready to go out, cos it could get to 3am after everywhere kicks out and you're probably never really more than about a score from anywhere by taxi. Try getting a cab back to Dagenham or something at 3am from the west end at 3am for anything under about 80-100 quid though.

I used to live off Ilford Lane so either went to Ilford or Barking to get home.
Ended up in Upminster, Stanford-le-Hope, Basildon, Shoeburyness, Witham, Colchester, Ealing Broadway (I'd gone to Hainault and back instead of changing at Stratford - and that was in the rush hour after a Xmas lunch) and Maryland (woke up suddenly and jumped out thinking it was Ilford - only to watch last train carry on without me.
Since moving Hemel way, I know the times of the first trains back from Milton Keynes and Bletchley.

My mate once got on at Fenny to go to Laindon. Fell asleep and ended up at Shoeburyness. Train back but fell asleep and ended up back at Fenny. Got another train but fell asleep and ended up at Shoeburyness. No more trains so cab home. 3.5 hours later and £70 light he finally gets in. Proper pissed he was. Soppy cunt.

Asian fella who used to work here, wasn't a big drinker had the best fall asleep story.
Left the works do the first year I was here about 5, he wasn't risking it with a new born baby and the fact in the good old days we were doing pints of Guinness and brandy shots from about 11am...
Went Cannon Street and I think was going out to Strood.
Fell asleep (he was squiffy as fuck)... woke up and he was at London Bridge. But it was about 7.30... He'd fallen asleep and go all the way out to Gillingham and back out again. He was at London Bridge on the way INTO Charing X...
Got his barings and got into Charing X.
Go on the Strood train and again about 8...
Fell asleep again and woke up at Dartford. Luckily wasn't too bad so he got a cab.
Totally sober by then. But got in about 10 after leaving at 5. She didn't believe a word of it apparently.

I've been very lucky when traveling home pissed. The only time I got caught out was after a piss up with the op. Ran for the last bus got on it the next thing I know is been woken up by the driver saying it was the last stop. the only problem was the bus had 120 on the back, the bus I wanted but 98 on the front I was in Uxbridge a few miles from home.

Worst I've had is a £60 taxi home, which by the standards set in here is nothing.
I have a tendency to miss the last train and I've more than once kipped in my office under the desk or outside Charing Cross station waiting for the place to open.

Re: Falling asleep on the last train/bus/boat

Used to do this pretty much every weekend when younger.
Went through a period of waking up in all sorts of random places. Left a pub in the West End around 11ish heading for Romford. Next thing I knew I woke up on a train and was being ushered off by the driver. I stumbled off and fell asleep on a bench, only to be woken up again and informed there were no further trains for the evening and had to leave. I began sobering up just as I headed up the escalators and came up into an empty Heathrow Airport. Had to ask a cleaner to show me to a cash machine and point me in the direction of a taxi rank. Not one bastard wanted to go out to Essex but eventually one rang a mate who was heading back home to Norwich and was happy for the fare. £150 to get home and vowed I'd never do it again. The next week I ended up in Southend.
Also went to Dublin and fell asleep on a night bus. Woke up when the bus terminated along the side of a motorway in the middle of nowhere. Had to wave down a cab who then had to pop round his friend's house and between them work out how to get back to where I was staying.
Have also done the usual 2/3 trips on the Greater Anglia line between Liverpool St and Shenfield backwards and forwards more than once as well.
Last few times have been Benfleet and Chelmsford.

Try to get back to Bristol, ended up in Wales.
Also ended up in Walthamstow when I lived in Hackney. Wandered round looking for a night bus to take me back to Hackney. Got on one and fell asleep on that too and ended up in Victoria, where I fell asleep in the toilet.
I basically used to fall asleep a lot. I once passed out on the steps of the Duomo after a big Saturday night out on Florence. Woke up on Sunday morning with loads of old nonnas stepping over me on their way to service.
